IWSG - Cliffhangers

I almost forgot! And then I was sitting in a meeting and remembered. So late, but here.

It's time for the Insecure Writer's Support Group!

Created by Alex J. Cavanaugh, the IWSG serves to create a community where writers lend each other support.

The optional question: Do you write cliffhangers at the end of your stories? Are they a turn-off to you as a reader and/or writer?

I don't really do cliffhangers, no. However, in horror things can be left open to translation or hinting at something, so I might do that at times. In novel/urban fantasy form, I wrap up the big things and present something at the end that leads into the next story, so that may be considered a bit of a cliffhanger, but I do think it's important to wrap up the main threads of that novel by the end.

Without further ado (because I'm totally still in my meeting and writing this, lol), my stats for the month of November:

0 new submissions (no tiiiiiiime)

1 rejection

(Note I got an acceptance TODAY, but that will be on my December stats)

6 stories currently on submission.

I need to make the time this month to get submissions back out there. I've been struggling with a complete shutdown on creativity/writing, but I feel like I might have gotten through it, so we'll see. I'd actually intended to write about it this month, but maybe next month instead.

Are you submitting? Do you do cliffhangers?

May you find your Muse.

  1. Hey, congrats on the story acceptance! Bummer on the rejection. And 6 out - very cool - even if none are new. Yes - I do cliffhangers and yes - I am considering submitting something in January... it's not ready yet. Happy Holidays!

  2. Congratulations on your one acceptance! Yes, every month I resolve to get more work ‘out there’. I know how difficult it is when you’re busy with other things. Glad you found something more interesting to do in your meeting. Ha ha. I generally doodle during meetings, draw cats and wine glasses (which is really all I can draw).

  3. I think individual stories need to be wrapped up.
